Yesterday, you were on your boss bitch shit. You checked off all your to-do items with a glorious Pilot G-2 07 ballpoint pen. You washed your hair, shaved, meal prepped, everything a functioning adult can do. But today, you can barely get out of bed, and for some reason, you’re thinking about that backhanded comment your mom made to you at your 14th birthday party. What happened to the bad bitch energy!? In a matter of hours, you’re reminded of old wounds you have done your best to sweep under the rug.
When in doubt, ask: What the Moon doin?
The Moon's influence on the Earth is witnessed through phenomenons like the tide and menstrual cycles. Some flowers only bloom in the moonlight. In folklore, werewolves hunt under its shining light. Whenever odd occurrences happen you can count on some random suburban white man to chuckle in his khakis and say, “Must be a full Moon tonight.” And for once, that white man might be right. The Moon is as important to the balance of our planet as the sun. It shows the passage of time on its face. Spiritualists manifest, pray, and celebrate by her iridescent glow or lack thereof. She seems like an ethereal being belonging to the night and the realms of shamans. On the contrary, she’s a part of our mundane life. She’s a part of your morning coffee. She’s a part of your post-workday run. She’s a part of your small talk with coworkers. We can escape the gaze of the sun come nightfall but the moon is always present and watching.
The moon changes signs quicker than any other celestial body and she drags our feels along with her through the signs and her aspects. Pay attention to the moon when you notice a sudden drop in mood or even confidence! She might be hanging out and being emo with Pisces or dancing with Leo. Kind of like a mother (one of her archetypes), the Moon can set the tone of the house.
That may explain why one would feel productive and confident one day and down in the dumps the next but how does she cause one to suddenly remember a comment made over two decades ago? Look at where the moon rests in comparison to your natal chart. This is your true daily horoscope, the one based on the moon, her placement, and aspects. Maybe she’s conjunct your natal Chiron, the wounded healer who represents the scars on our souls we spend the rest of our lives trying to heal. If the moon is visiting your Chiron, she’s gonna bring up the elephant in the room. Certainly not to spite you but instead, perhaps give you some time to grieve a little bit at a time. Being mindful of the moon can really help you understand what might be bringing you down when everything else seems to be going just fine.
As a torchbearer for Divine Feminity (WHICH WE ALL HAVE REGARDLESS OF SEX, GENDER, OR SEXUALITY*), the Moon invites us to be in tune with ourselves. She reminds us that it's okay to be on top of your shit one day and only manage to wash your pumPUM the next. The Moon is not superwoman and she doesn’t expect anyone else to be. She’s just a bitch going through her daily routine, bumping into old friends, rebelling against authority, sobbing at a Miyazaki film, and making small talk in the coffee shop line, just like you are. She’s just not ashamed of it and if you’re anything like me (a judgemental perfectionist who gets whiplash from her intense emotions) neither should you.
Where is your natal moon sign? Take the week to notice where the moon was at the end of the day and reflect on your mood. Was she aspecting any personal planets? Was she void of course? How can you better use your time to make sure your emotions are felt and honored?
*One of my biggest pet peeves with the spiritual community is when people sometimes bend the Divine Feminine and Masculine into a white heterosexual patriarchal lens. Your womb doesn’t make you more attached to the Divine Feminine that a woman without one. Embodying Divine Mascuility is good and HEALTHY for women to connect to and express. Embracing Divine Feminity can be healing for men. Both and All. We have access to the Divine because we ARE divine.
